Rising Phoenix RPG

Rising Phoenix RPG is the original RPG Maker MV reboot of my early Rising Phoenix series.

After starting life as a set of small Flash platformers, Rising Phoenix eventually became something much bigger in my imagination. This RPG version was my attempt to rebuild the series as a classic 2D adventure, inspired by the kinds of games I loved growing up — especially old-school Final Fantasy titles, Kingdom Hearts, and story-driven fantasy RPGs.

At the time, I wanted this to be a huge game: a full adventure with a deep story, side quests, emotional character arcs, mystery, darkness, friendship, and a world that felt much larger than anything I had made before. Looking back, it was probably far too ambitious for where I was as a developer, but that ambition is also what makes it special to me.

This version is being preserved as part of my game development archive. It represents a period where I was beginning to think beyond small levels and simple mechanics, and started trying to build worlds, characters, lore, and long-form stories.

Story

After years of fighting in what seemed like an endless war, George has spent his life trying to protect his home and the people he cares about.

But with the war finally coming to an end, a new threat begins to rise. Darkness spreads across the land, peace starts to fracture, and George is forced into a much bigger journey than he ever expected.

His former best friend, Nexus, now stands on the wrong side of the conflict, caught in the influence of Airanroc — the mysterious mastermind behind the war.

As George sets out to confront the darkness, he must face old friendships, painful truths, and the question of whether someone lost to the wrong path can truly be saved.

About this version

This is not a modern remake or a polished final release. It is an original RPG Maker MV project from an earlier stage of my creative life, preserved with its original ideas, rough edges, ambition, and limitations intact.

It shows a version of Rising Phoenix where I was trying to transform a simple platformer into something much more cinematic and story-driven. Even though the project was bigger than I could realistically finish at the time, it became an important part of my journey as a game developer.

Why release this?

Rising Phoenix RPG represents one of my earliest attempts to make something large-scale and emotionally driven.

It was ambitious, imperfect, and probably too big for me at the time — but it also shows how much I wanted to grow. I was no longer just making short platforming levels. I was trying to create a world, tell a story, and turn Rising Phoenix into something with real meaning behind it.

Looking back, this project is less about what it fully became, and more about what it taught me: scope, storytelling, ambition, and the importance of learning through making.
